Birds seen in and around Ang Khang in

February 2003

We used “A Field Guide to the Birds of South-east Asia”

By Craig Robson, 2002 edition.

The list below shows those birds which we are 100% certain we identified correctly.

We probably saw as many again which we did not positively identify.

These include many small warblers from plates 83 and 84, several flocks of small birds in the forests as well as some larger ones which did not stay long enough to get sufficient details for a positive identification.

We stayed in the resort for 12 nights and went out for long walks on most days. The resort is in a valley with a 2 to 3 mile uphill (steep) walk to the recommended birding spots. We soon noticed that most birds did not become active until the sun came over the mountains at about 8.30 am and since we did not have our own transport we made no early starts to areas where the sun would be up earlier. We were advised not to venture up the sunny slopes to the west as most of the tracks crossed into Burma without warning.
